Need for Speed!

In a few short weeks, all eyes will be on Detroit with the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix Indy IZOD series race. This year the race track is now 2.3 miles long, with it's many twists and turns of a street racing course. The race drivers enjoy a beautiful view of the Detroit River, and the downtown area as they race around on this course. I have attended this race many times and I highly recommend it for anyone who can attend. The backdrop of the Detroit River, matched with the Indy race cars, is definitely an experience to remember. I was downtown on Friday, as it was a beautiful day here in the "D", and I ran into this race car on display near the waterfront. Took a few pictures of this slick, fast, beautiful machine that will be racing in the next few weeks here in Detroit. Thanks for looking!

Here to Stay

I chose this photo today because it has memories for me. It looks like Spring is moving along slowly here in Michigan, and with that I found my first sprout of my Red Lily plants that sit right outside my front door next to my front porch. The bud shown here is about the size of a nickel right now, but when in full bloom, will be about 2-3 ft tall. I bought these lily plants about 12 years ago, after I bought my very first house myself. I was proud of the fact that I was able to purchase my own house, being a single Mom with two kids. A few years later, my life changed and I ended up moving 3 times in 10 years. Each time I had to move to a different home, I dug up my lily plants and took them with me. My 3rd and hopefully final move was 2 1/2 years ago, and I still have my Red Lily plants. Not sure why they mean so much to me, but they do, and since we do not intend to move again, if ever, I called these plants "Here to Stay". As they grow, I hope to have some more photos so you can see how beautiful these plants are in full bloom. Hope you like it, and thanks for looking! :)

Sometimes You Feel Like A Nut......

Went to a park on Sat. wanting to take some photos, since it has rained for the last 3-4 days here. The joke was on me, as it was freezing cold outside! I stayed long enough to take some photos of my niece playing, the ducks and geese, and this little guy. This was just a baby squirrel who ran right up to us. He was a little scared, as he would run up to us and then turn tail and take off running again. I quickly snapped a photo of him on the ground at my feet, and then one of the ducks scared him off up the tree. It was pretty funny and my niece laughed alot. I think my fingers are still frost-bitten though! Hope you enjoy as much as I did.

Sunday Sunrise in the City

A cold, but beautiful sunrise this morning. Living in the city, it's really hard to capture sunrise and sunset photos at home. I happened to look out the window and saw this beautiful sky. Took a photo anyway, as I thought the clouds were a spectacular color.

Architecture in Black & Gold

It's been raining for 3 days now here in Michigan, and I was determined to go out and take some photos outside, even in the rain. I decided to do something that I realized I don't do enough. Architecture and Buildings have intrigued me a lot lately, and I decided to see if I could find a few to photograph. I didn't have to go far, about two miles from home and I found several buildings with great architectural aspects. I'll save some for another day, but today this is the one that intrigued me the most. It is actually a Catholic Church that I have driven by hundreds of times, and the glistening of the gold in the sun is always an eye-catcher. Not glistening so much today since it is raining, but the architectural detail is very noticeably once I took the time to stop and really look. The lines of the dome itself, the vertical lines and angles of the green roofing, and the black curves of the windows makes this worth a second look. As I sat there snapping a few photos in the rain, I looked at all of the black curved windows and wondered why they were placed there and who sits there looking out at the world around us. One day, I may have to go inside and see the view from the dome.

Flowers, Weeds, Pretty Pink

Was looking through some of my photos from last summer and came across these two flowers. I am not sure if they are wild flowers or just weeds, as they grow on the side of the road on our street that is about 1 mile long. At the end of our street is Lake Huron. I'm talking about our home away from home in the thumb area of Michigan. It's my peace, my serenity. Back to nature and the beauty the outside has to offer. I can't wait to get back there, soon! So, are these flowers or just weeds? Either way, I think they are beautiful!

Is it Real?

It looks like Spring may have finally arrived here in Michigan. I took my Mom who has Alzheimer's Disease to one of her favorite parks for coffee and a bagel on Sat. morning. The ice on the water is gone and it looks like sunny days ahead.
